Como já vem sendo habito o número de candidatos a este festival ultrapassa mais uma vez as 340 inscrições, oriundas de 44 países de todos os continentes.

O Porto7 será novamente o palco de apresentação de muitas estreias nacionais, europeias e mundiais.

Candidataram-se 169 obras para estreia Nacional, 21 para estreia Europeia e 57 a estreia Mundial.

A secção competitiva mais concorrida é a de curtas-metragens de Ficção Internacional, com 212 filmes inscritos, seguindo-se a secção competitiva de Animação Internacional, com 39 animações inscritas.
A competição de Ficção Nacional conta com a participação de 29 candidatos ao prémio de Melhor Curta-metragem Nacional.
A novidade deste ano é a competição de Documentário. Uma competição aberta a documentários nacionais e internacionais de tema livre e com a duração máxima de 20 minutos.
Esta competição revela desde já mais um sucesso do Festival Porto7, ao conseguir reunir 34 documentários na inauguração desta secção.
Na secção de Videoclip estão inscritos 37 trabalhos relativos a 36 bandas e artistas solo de 10 países diferentes.

Três vezes por mês e durante aproximadamente uma hora são projectadas no Hard Club Curtas-metragens do Porto7 – Festival Internacional de Curtas-metragens do Porto.

Estas Curtas-metragens participaram em edições anteriores neste festival, inseridas em competição e/ou exibição durante os 5 dias em que decorre o Porto7. As Curtas HCPorto7 são seleccionadas maioritariamente por tema. As temáticas e os géneros variam semanalmente.

Scott Hillier, a cinematographer with an Oscar under his belt, created ÉCU in 2006 in Paris, to give independent film makers the opportunity to project their work in front of a large international audience made up of a melting pot of professionals from the film industry and of course, film lovers.

His goal is to shine the spotlight onto the best European cinematographic work being created today by hundreds of talented, independent but unfortunately under‐funded film makers – and to defend and promote the free and creative spirit that is unique to independent cinema.
